Learn More About Timber TownTimber Town's BeginningsIn 1996, long time Chelsea residents, Gloria Mitchell and Julie Rutherford, began the project management of a grand play structure, which was to become Timber Town. It was a massive community undertaking, garnering some $120,000 in financial support and community donations, along with over 2,500 volunteers to help build the structure and play area. At the time of its construction, Timber Town was one of the largest play structures of its kind in the State of Michigan. The Timber Town Restoration ProjectIn celebration of Timber Town's 10 year anniversary, a large restoration project was organized by the Friends of Timber Town, whose sole mission is to secure funds to maintain and renovate the play structure. With project coordination headed up by Amy Mitchell (daughter of Gloria Mitchell), the hardware restoration weekend took place in May 2007, and the restoration weekend took place June 9-10, 2007.
