Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General

Event listings are FREE? What's the catch?

No catch. This is a free community resource. If we charged for listings, the information provided would not be as extensive.

How do I advertise on your site?

We offer two types of advertising. One is for events that you would like to promote, and the other is to feature your organization, group or business.

What is a "Community Link"?

A community link is a listing found on a non-event page, such as Places to Go, Stuff to Learn or Groups to Join. Places like the library, Chamber of Commerce, and support groups or hobby clubs would have a community link on one of these pages.

Who keeps up this site? The City? The Chamber of Commerce?

Things To Do In Chelsea is privately owned and operated. It was created and maintained by Leslie Surel, who is a resident and business owner in Chelsea, Michigan. That said, we have a great working relationship with the City of Chelsea, the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations in town. We get along well and do a lot of cross-promoting.

Is This a Non-Profit Organization?

My humorous answer to this question is usually, "Not on purpose!" But no, Things To Do In Chelsea is not a non-profit organization. The expenses to run the site are paid for by Surelutions (my website design company), with help from our Featured Contributors and event advertising.

My group is already listed on the site. How did it get there?

We are always on the look out for resources to add to the website. If your group is listed in a local directory, or if you've had printed publicity or online articles, there is a good chance that we took a note of it and added your listing during one of rounds of updates. To correct a listing, simply send us an email.

I'd like to add a listing to the Groups To Join page, but we don't have a website (or our website is not working). Can it still be listed?

Sure, your group can certainly be listed. We would list your group with a phone number instead. Another option is to become a Featured Contributor, which would provide you a working and up-to-date web page. Or, if you need advice about getting your website updated, feel free to email me.

I barely know how to use a computer. Why would I want a listing on your site?

Events, organizations and businesses need a web presence. A good number of people these days leave the phone book and newspapers to gather dust and search the Internet instead. If they can't find you on-line, they don't find you at all.

The good news is that if you are a business in Chelsea, you don't need to spend a lot of money to get online. Event listings are free, and feature pages are less expensive than most printed ads. Check out our Listing Options, or email me to talk about your specific needs.
